LEO’s Energy Efficiency Grant can help your business invest in green tech and equipment.
Did you know that LEO’s Energy Efficiency Grant can support your business in investing in green technologies and equipment? After completing a Green For Micro report, Greenstart report, or SEAI Energy Audit, your enterprise may be eligible to receive up to 50% of the costs, with a maximum grant of €5,000.
This scheme is designed to reduce the environmental impact of businesses while enhancing their agility and resilience. The Climate Action and Low Carbon development act 2021 requires Ireland to achieve a 51% reduction in emissions by 2030.
Background
This grant is aimed at small businesses that have completed a Green For Micro report, GreenStart report, or a recent energy audit by a SEAI-registered energy auditor and are not currently clients of Enterprise Ireland or IDA.
What are the eligible costs?
Eligible costs for the grant include meters (electricity, gas, diesel, oil, water, steam loggers) and their installation and commissioning. Smart energy controls (heating, cooling, lighting, automatic on/off systems, parasitic load controls) and LED lighting upgrades (as part of a package) are covered.
The grant supports upgrading to more energy-efficient systems, such as heat pumps for manufacturing heating processes, heat recovery systems, small wind turbines, and hydro generators (subject to feasibility). Replacement or upgrade of equipment over 10 years old (refrigeration units, electric steam boilers, ovens, industrial dishwashers, engineering equipment) and system components (variable speed drives, pumps, fans, condensers, extraction systems, cold room doors) are also eligible. Costs must cover hardware, reasonable installation, and commissioning expenses.
What are the ineligible costs?
Some costs aren’t covered by this grant, but don’t worry—there are other options!
For solar panels, check out the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme. If you’re looking at biomass boilers or anaerobic digesters, the SEAI Support Scheme for Renewable Heat has you covered. Insulation and heat pumps for space heating can get support from SEAI Sustainable Energy Communities and the same Renewable Heat scheme.
*Note that activities related to fossil fuels and software platform subscription or maintenance costs aren’t eligible.
Is your business eligible?
If you’ve completed a Green for Micro, GreenStart, or SEAI Energy Audit and aren’t currently clients of Enterprise Ireland or IDA, you could be eligible. Your business should be established, registered, and operating in the Local Enterprise Office area, with an annual turnover of over €30,000 and more than six months of trading. The grant is designed for projects that wouldn’t proceed without this support, and you must own the premises or have a lease with at least 12 months remaining or an option to renew.
Some businesses unfortunately don’t qualify for this grant. These include those operating solely from a home office, those in the coal or steel sectors, and those active in primary agriculture, fishery, or aquaculture. Also, businesses engaged in activities considered ineligible or risky by the Local Enterprise Offices, such as gambling, adult entertainment, tobacco, and non-medicinal cannabis products, won’t qualify. This list isn’t exhaustive, and Enterprise Ireland reviews cases dynamically.
